Zotero storage for thesis season

50 GB of Zotero storage without paying for a year you do not need

A thesis can turn a small Zotero library into gigabytes of papers quickly. Refory is built for personal-library attachments and plans a six-month option for people who only need extra storage for a semester, thesis, or short research project.

Refory is currently in private beta and free. Paid checkout and the timed trial are not live yet; these are the planned launch terms.

No student verification

The six-month plan is not a special gated student discount. Anyone can choose it. That keeps the product simple and also covers visiting researchers, short contracts, semester projects, and anyone who only needs a large synced library temporarily.

What Refory stores

Refory stores attachment files from your personal Zotero library through Zotero's built-in WebDAV sync. Zotero continues to sync your citations, collections, notes, and other library data.

WebDAV does not handle group-library attachment syncing. If your thesis or research group relies on shared group-library files, official Zotero Storage is the appropriate option for those files.

Why use hosted WebDAV for a thesis?

  • No plugin: Zotero already knows how to use WebDAV.
  • No server maintenance: you do not need to operate Nextcloud, a NAS, TLS, or public networking during thesis season.
  • 50 GB paid storage: enough headroom for PDF-heavy personal libraries without micromanaging attachments.
  • Recovery: Refory keeps immutable version history with 30-day file recovery.
  • EU-hosted: primary attachment storage is hosted in the EU.

Already seeing “storage full” in Zotero?

The 300 MB warning is about synced attachment files, not the number of references you can keep. Read the storage-full guide before deleting files or moving your Zotero data directory.

Setup should take minutes

Refory uses Zotero's normal WebDAV settings. After creating a Refory app key, enter the Refory server, your account email, and the app key in Zotero, then use Verify Server.

The Zotero WebDAV setup guide walks through each setting in order.
